Tallow Mark

Evening · the hours after the day job

An evening burns down like a candle. Mark where it should stop.

Tallow Mark is a small reference for people adding a second, smaller income to a full-time job. We don't sell courses, tools or coaching. For most people, side work happens in the evening, and evenings have a way of disappearing. We help you decide in advance how much of each one side work may take.

A candle clock marked in evening hours. 19:00, dinner and family. 20:00 and 21:00, side work: one focused hour and one hour of routine tasks. 22:00 is the stop mark, time to wind down. 23:00, sleep. The candle

Set the stop mark while you're still fresh.

Old candle clocks were marked in hours, so anyone could see how much of the night had gone. An evening of side work needs the same kind of mark. Without one, "just one more task" runs to midnight, and the next day at work pays for it.

The candle shows one way to split an evening: dinner and family first, one focused hour while there's still energy, one hour of routine tasks, then a fixed stop. The stop mark matters most, and it's easiest to keep when it's chosen before the evening starts.

Burn rates

How fast different kinds of side work burn an evening.

Some work fits neatly into a marked hour. Some spreads, because it depends on other people or has no natural end. Knowing which is which helps you set a realistic mark.

Draughts

What makes the flame gutter.

  • FEES

    The rate isn't what arrives.

Platforms and payment services keep a share. Read the fee page before you start.

  • TAX

    Small amounts still count.

Side income is usually taxable. Keep a plain record from the first payment and check your tax authority's rules.

  • CONTRACT

Your employer may have a say.

Some employment contracts limit outside or competing work. Read yours and ask HR about anything unclear.

  • FRAUD

Offers that cost you to start.

Anyone asking for a fee, a kit purchase or help moving money isn't offering work. Walk away and report it.

  • SLEEP

    Late nights add up.

Evenings that run past the stop mark come back as mistakes at the day job. Protect your sleep first.
